It’s officially President Donald Trump’s 100th day in office, and he’s scheduled to travel to Michigan, a battleground state key to his victory, to commemorate it.
Trump is expected to fly to Selfridge Air National Guard Base, where he will speak to the Michigan National Guard. He will then head to Warren, where he will hold a rally to mark the occasion.
Tomorrow, Trump will showcase investments made in the US during his first 100 days in office. The CEOs of NVIDIA, GE Aerospace, Johnson & Johnson, Eli Lilly and SoftBank Group are among those invited.
Trump’s second term has been largely characterized by his administration’s shrinking of the federal workforce, crackdown on immigration and global trade war.
Here’s the latest on the administration’s domestic moves:
Immigration crackdown: Trump signed executive orders yesterday targeting sanctuary cities and non-English speaking truck drivers.
Auto tariffs relief: US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has appeared to confirm reporting that a deal has been reached with automakers to ease tariffs. The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump was set to announce a new tariff structure for cars that avoids stacking them on existing tariffs.
Retail resumption: Walmart and Target have resumed business with some of their Chinese suppliers, after pausing orders for weeks due to uncertainties over the imposition of steep US tariffs, two Chinese factories told CNN. The resumption came days after Trump’s meeting with the heads of retail giants Walmart, Target and Home Depot, who warned that store shelves across America could soon be empty.
Exodus of civil rights attorneys: About 70% of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division is expected to accept a second offer to federal workers that allows them to resign from their positions and be paid through September, according to a source.
CFPB layoffs: A congressional watchdog agency is investigating Trump’s efforts to dismantle the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, CNN has learned.
Trump and his administration have also worked to end the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, goals that have yet to be achieved.
Here are the latest developments:
Trump urged to help hostages: A group of released Israeli hostages called on Trump to bring the remaining Israelis home from Gaza. After the collapse of a ceasefire deal last month, which the US helped to mediate, war talks have resumed.
Trump and Putin at odds: Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a unilateral three-day ceasefire in Ukraine next month, a move met with skepticism by Ukraine, which demanded that the Kremlin leader accept a longer truce proposal from the US that he rejected. Trump has voiced increasing frustration over the failed efforts to broker a deal within his self-imposed target of the first 100 days of his presidency.
